WOODRUE "Bones, Bile and Black Blood" Tape 4€
(Woodrue)
The new wave of Finnish sludge keeps on growing and Woodrue join the ranks with a strong offering. "Bones, Bile and Black Blood" is their second release and has already caused a stir within Finnish amplifier worshippers. Two guitars, bass, drums, vocals, riffs, Satan, dope and depravity - they got it all! Pleasantly dirty and rugged recording of four songs influenced by the usual suspects (Eyehategod, Buzzov·en, Sourvein, Weedeater etc.), adding a twist stemming from Finnish yearly suicide rates to the mix. 20 minutes of sludge the way it's meant to be. White tape in a nice fold-out sleeve.

DIVORCE / JAILHOUSE FUCK Split 10" 10€
(SixSixSixties Records)
This 10" is a perfectly matched collision of Divorce and their Northern European (namely Swedish) equivalent Jailhouse Fuck. If anything, the Glasgow-based quartet are the nastier of the pair, with "Cactusk" an especially hateful, down-tempo outpouring of bile. Noisy punk rock, punky noise rock, rocking punk noise. Jailhouse Fuck are fractionally more whimsical in their contributions. Only very slightly, mind, as this is still some intensely visceral stuff. Their opening number, "Lick Your Stick", is built on some frantic guitar work as well as a chorus that's about as anthemic as this sort of unfettered catharsis gets. What results is a hideously good, brilliantly unpleasant fuck-you of an EP that courses with the enduring spirit of true punk rock abandon. Black vinyl. Limited edition of 250 copies.

CORRUPTED "Garten Der Unbewusstheit" CD 10€
(Nostalgia Blackrain)
And so, the consciousness left from the body being wounded and exhausted by the countless difficulties of life, assimilated with the spring called infinity, like healing oneself. An infinity and eternity. An eternity and symbol of death. A symbol of death and wellspring of creation. Rising from the wellspring of creation, the product will rest forever even after the ruin of the body of the creator, reprocessing in front of another new lives. But as the time passes by, our lives in reality are loosing it's imaginative fascination by the material, times, and the evil named science. Our lives are full of lies. Our suffering demented soul will completely support death. Just because of the strong love for "life". Corrupted should be the rare existence as the band is nowadays struggling to expose the lies of life. Their 4th album is entitled "Garten Der Unbewusstheit", which means "garden of unconsciousness". This is the final album by the "original" Corrupted featuring 3 tracks, 63 minutes in total. But "garden of unconsciousness" should have existed from the early hardcore approaching days of Corrupted. The reason is not clear, but definitely what was going on was not progression, nor development but seeking and recurrence. So the fact is that the beat on this album is most calm, gentle, and transparent than ever. And this paradoxical evolution form is nothing but the result of huge studio works, mixing thousands of feedbacks and guitar overtones like constructing the three dimensional architecture. The remarkable point of this 3 track hour of suit is that this album totally transcends our usual sense of time. Feeling minutes and seconds like infinity, and feeling 60 minutes and 3600 seconds like a brief moment. This transcending sense can be described as the sense of liberation from material and life through music. So first of all, let's experience this album and expose the lies of our "given life". At last, as many may already know, the vocalist Hevi and guitarist Talbot left the group after recording of this album and 17 years of activities since 1994. Now Corrupted has a new singer Taiki (ex- Freedom, Diabolic Art) stepping forward to another unknown level. Like inviting us to another garden of unconsciousness...

THE JAM SESSION "När mörkret väller över / Att skingra det mörker som betäcker landet" Tape 5€
(Erode Releases)
This tape compiles the last two releases by The Jam Session, containing the full-length album "När mörkret väller över" released on Concubine Records in 2006 and the 12" "Att skingra det mörker som betäcker landet" released on Crucificados Pelo Sistema in 2003. These two releases left behind the hyperactive and chaotic punky approach of earlier material, opting towards a doomier, sludgier and perhaps more metallic sound. Don't expect to hear any high speed guitar twiddling though, the "metal" here is of the filthier kind and blends perfectly together with the band's sludge/doom vibe which is spiced with obscure ambient sounds as well. The hand-painted and sticker labelled tape comes in a full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 300 copies.

THE GOOD WIFE "Teeth and Tongue" 7" 6€
(SuperFi Records)
This is the debut release from this mysterious Southampton (on the south coast of England) quintet. Imagine an unholy meeting between Oxbow, The Jesus Lizard and The Stooges in the philosophy/adult aisle of your local library, and you might be halfway there. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. Limited edition of 300 copies.

PIG HEART TRANSPLANT / THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE Split 7" 6€
(SuperFi Records)
Pig Heart Transplant is the noise based side-project of Jon Kortland from Iron Lung, though you will find hefty doses of downtuned aggro-stoner in there too. The Endless Blockade were ex-Shank and made power violence with numerous nods towards the harsh noise scene, making this a perfect matchup. After several releases of their own and even more split releases (with the likes of Unearthly Trance, The Bastard Noise, Iron Lung, Hatred Surge etc.), this split 7" marks their final release. Black vinyl in beautiful silk-screened fold out sleeve. Limited edition of 545 copies.

GEISHA "Mondo Dell'Orrore" CD 10€
(SuperFi Records/Blood Red Sounds)
Devouring/rebirthing the concept of "noise rock" into something frighteningly beautiful and brutally heavy, Geisha deliver crushing blasts of impossibly hyperdistorted rock baked in massive frequency overload and massive hooks and melodies and sinister crushing riffs, all of it slathered in filthy throbbing feedback and white noise horror holocaust, like the early 90's alt rock of "Isn't Anything" -era My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr. mashed together with the most brutal sort of Unsane/Am Rep style racket and distortion-drenched psych/noise into a sludgy metallic mass, jamming with a small army of pedal-smashing harsh electronics troglodytes playing awesomely catchy/crushing pop songs buried beneath a hellish storm of skree and amp-blowing fuzz. Terrifying. Beautiful.

SNOWBLOOD "s/t" CD 10€
(SuperFi Records)
The third and final outing from this Glasgow based band, now sadly defunct. Their previous albums, "The Human Tragedy" (2003) and "Being and Becoming" (2005), earned Snowblood the description of "Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Neurosis clashing together" and this final album only strengthens the image raised by that comparison. The hour long journey actually starts pretty serene as the first of the four untitled tracks starts with delicate atmospheric programming, soft percussive approach, shimmering guitar gait and clean singing, lulling you into a false sense of security before the track erupts into a seething, screaming, frenzy of lurching riffs and a huge bluesy, stoner rock groove. And that’s the first 18 minutes. The second track has a tough act to follow but its moody strumming, cello/violin and dark crooning set a nice mood akin to Neurosis in deft, dark artistry, but you can feel the urgency starting to build and eventually it does erupt at 9:44 into a huge but controlled doomy lurch. The somber, more post rock and Neurosis influenced hues continue to start the third track, where delicate strings back steady, languid, shimmering riffs and clean vocals make for a hypnotic 10 minutes even with some pained screaming towards the end. The 17 minute closer has a very slight Tool influence before a massive sludgy section and crippling atmospheric segue and eventual explosion of hefty, pummeling sludge and it's simply brilliant, closing a brilliant album in fitting fits of exasperation and rending emotion. Stylish carton sleeve with artwork by Glyn of Scrawled. Limited edition of 500 copies.

WALLS "The Future is Wide Open" LP 12€
(De Graanrepubliek)
The paranoia and unease of one man is hard to measure physically. Walls has done this sonically so that the more timid people out there don't have to get their hands quite so dirty. They will still have to do the work though. There is always the work. "The Future is Wide Open" is a sarcastic bite out of society's apple. And what a rotten apple indeed. Bursting with angst and tension, this album is a relentless hardcore punk/noise rock demon-sound. There is no release from the future. The gates are shut. You know how some bands are described with images of axes, hammers or other equipment just to describe how brutal they are? Well, Walls are like knives. You don't see them coming but you can feel they are here. Bleak and harsh. This is rage. The European pressing on De Graanrepubliek comes on black vinyl.

BUILDINGS "Cry Melt Sleep" LP 15€
(Cash Cow Production)
Formed in 2006, Buildings is a three piece from Minneapolis. Their music is loud, aggressive and dynamic. "Melt Cry Sleep" is the band's 2nd full-length, and the follow up to 2008's self-released "Braille Animal". Engineer Jacques Wait has perfectly reined in the band's furious energy, allowing the 10 tightly wound tracks on "Melt Cry Sleep" room to breathe in contrast to their raw and visceral live sets. One might think from the blistering opener "Rainboat" that it's all loud and fast, but Buildings is deceptive in their songwriting. Often switching gears several times within a song, as evidenced on tracks "Born on a Bomb" and "Invocation". New bassist Sayer Payne's driving bass lines and Travis Kuhlman's frantic drumming work in tandem to steer through the chaos on songs like "I Don't Love My Dog Anymore" and "Night Cop". Combined with Brian Lake's snarling vocals and eerie, atonal guitar on songs like "Wrong Cock" and the madness of the closer "Crystal City", Buildings never end where they began. Insert here the obligatory "what would it sound like if Pissed Jeans, The Jesus Lizard, '89-'92 Helmet and perhaps Young Widows got into the same bed after a night of heavy drinking" -rant. If that doesn't raise your interest, there's a naked chick holding a bag of balls on the front cover of "Melt Cry Sleep"! If that doesn't do it, go back to your Erasure records. 180g black vinyl comes with an mp3 download coupon.

WITCH "Die Fehl-Ritzhausen Kassette" Tape 6€
(Who Can You Trust? Records)
There's nothing to say that hasn't already been said… One thing is clear – Witch's music is made to be played live and this recording proves it with every second and perfectly reflects an extraordinary musical vision that is far apart from being just a random number in a pool of todays so called "stoner/(whatever) rock" bands. Anyone who's able to chew this thick chunk of meat a bit longer will grasp a glimpse of the weird beauty it conceals. This tape was recorded live at the Roadburn Festival 2008 and Witch on this recording were J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) on drums, Dave Sweetapple (Sweet Apple) on bass, Antoine Guerlain on guitar and Kyle Thomas (Feathers, Happy Birthday) on guitar and vocals. Violet tape with on-shell printing and full colour j-card. Limited edition of 200 copies.

The vinyl master was cut at 45 rpm at the world-reknown MasterDisk studios in New York City. Whores will appeal to fans of Helmet, Pissed Jeans, Harvey Milk and The Jesus Lizard. FORKBOY "1993-1999" CD 10€
(Kaos Kontrol/Arkisto Rekords)
"A fork is a cold shiny tool / To pierce, tear and ingest / Whoever has the fork in hand / Controls the meal of its choice." The opening lines for the Lard song, "Forkboy" which in turn gave the name for an Oulu-based quartet formed in 1993. Born out of love for AmRep noise, AC/DC, Dead Kennedys and driven by twenty-something angst, Forkboy recorded three demos and one previously unreleased session during their 6 year existence and it's all documented here on one disc. Furiously rocking songs packed with gritty guitars and feedback, rhythm section heavy as an elephant turd and as the band puts it, "lots of shouting". The original recordings have been carefully restored and remastered by Pentti Dassum and the sleeve features original artwork and photos by the band along with liner notes. If you were there during the late 90s noise rock craze or if you have only recently discovered its splendour or if you just have a boner for hidden gems of Finnish punk/noise/rock, this CD is for you! Standard jewel case with full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 300 copies.

RUSTED SHUT "Hot Sex" 12" 13€
(Dull Knife)
Rusted Shut from Houston, Texas have been around since 1987. This four-song 12" was recorded already in 1997 during the same sessions as their "Rehab" album, but weren't released until 2008. That alone should tell you Rusted Shut are not here to entertain. This is pretty close to the dirtiest and most chaotic sound you can still call noise rock and no matter what you call it, it will blow your mind. Shiny Grey Monotoned pinned down Rusted Shut's sound nicely: "Take every instrument you got, plug them into something shitty, something with blown out speakers preferably, mic the drums via the next door neighbors house, and lodge the vocal mic halfway down the singers throat. Got all that? Great. Now, turn everything on. Good. Then, turn all available knobs all the way to the right, clockwise. Yeah, keep turning. Just keep turning until they snap off. Great. Perfect. Alright, now go....play something. Play whatever noisy, crazed racket you can conjure... just keep fucking playing!" This 12" has been sold out for years now, but Dull Knife managed to track down a few copies. Black vinyl, limited edition of 500 copies.

SOURVEIN "s/t" LP 20€

Sourvein's self-titled debut (also known as "Salvation") is a classic, long "lost", southern sludge masterpiece that's been out of print for over 12 years in any format and never available on vinyl until now. Featuring T-Roy (Hail!Hornet) on vocals and Liz Buckingham (Electric Wizard, 13) on guitar. Containing the classic tracks "Dirty South", "Plead the Fifth", "Burial" and "Salvation" and more; this release will quench the thirst of rabid southern metal fans and obsessive record collectors who have waited years for this album to be available once again. The cover artwork has been recreated in the spirit of the original CD concept, but updated to represent the idea intended to be put forth by the band originally. Contains 8 tracks, 40 minutes and an insert. This super limited first pressing is only 200 clear gold copies with gold cover (available through Kaos Kontrol) and 100 deluxe glow in the dark editions with a glowing cover as well as the wax itself!

HELL DEMONIO "Discography" CD 10€
(Robot Radio Records/Wallace Records)
Brusque dose of smart, punky post-hardcore/noise rock here of a type that recalls a more raucous take on what the likes of Thumbnail, Bluetip and the Rye Coalition were peddling a few years back, rammed to the proverbial gunwales with energetic yelps, yells and tightly-wound, treble-heavy riffing. Each track is short-lived but manages to pack plenty of punch, rocking and rolling through such uniquely strange titles as "How to Enter a Church Within a Transparent Sphere" and making for yet another smart little number from Italy’s really rather spiffy Robot Radio Records. Very stylish sleeve in jewel case and slipcase.
http://www.myspace.com/helldemonio

LUCERTULAS "Tragol de Rova" MCD 8€
(Robot Radio Records)
The first two tracks on this CD are really great, sounding like Arab On Radar covers of Speedking songs and the rest of the album follows this kind of dischordant messy post-punk trail with several more songs of lovely noise, even slipping in a headbangingly heavy riff in "Miss Ratched" that oddly doesn't seem that out of place. There are some melodic and quiet bits here (especially in "Tintinnio") but luckily they are few and far between and thankfully Lucertulas don't spend long with that accessible nonsense. There is however an ill-advised seven minute foray into ambient noise towards the end of the album. Luckily they do set things right on the last song and end the 26 minutes the right way. It is sometimes difficult for this kind of band to translate a live show to a record but if "Trago De Rova" is anything to go by this band would be a riot. Digipak.
http://www.myspace.com/lucertulas

LUCERTULAS "The Brawl" CD 10€
(Robot Radio Records)
"The Brawl" is Lucertulas' personal vendetta, a response to an out of touch society, based on the concept of punishment and surveillance, challenging the right to be oneself. A magmatic flow taking in and transforming everything in its path into energy, drawing its impetus from dizzying structures and oblique textures of voracious guitars, scathingly furious vocals and a rhythm section of grinding anger. Over these 13 tracks, without holding back, Lucertulas let their energy explode, on an album to be listened to from beginning to end without respite. Digipak.
http://www.myspace.com/lucertulas

PUTIFERIO "Ateateate" CD 10€
(Robot Radio Records)
Another odd bunch from Italy courtesy of Robot Radio, this time with a clusterfuck sound suspended partway between latterday Racebannon and first-album Blood Brothers, the whole thing yapping and squawking over disjointed riffs that pull in all manner of different directions like a bagful of cats tied at the tail. Amidst the crunching thud and froth-mouthed vocals (think equal parts Mikes Patton and Anderson with some odd bouts of "Space Oddity" Bowie) there's a sense of experimentation threading its stumbling way, from patches of wobbly electronica to moments where you seriously have to wonder whether this lot absorbed a trick or two from Zu the last time their carnival made its lolloping way through town. High points are plentiful, but the gradual build and seismic *whudd* of "Putiferio Goes to War" probably edges it, perfectly showcasing the band's multiple personalities as it shifts and clunks toward oblivion. Digipak.
http://www.myspace.com/putiferio

TIDE OF IRON "Sow" CDr 6€
(Shy Bairns)
Some raging stuff right here, this Newcastle mob barfing out a glorious, noise-rock mess that recalls such big ugly buggers as Cherubs, Big'n and Pachinko. While others who've adopted this sound in recent times (Black Elk or KEN Mode, say) have tended to let their ditties hover around the four or five-minute mark, Tide Of Iron channel everything into terse blasts of hardcore-infused brevity. Everything is taut and highly-strung, riffs angrily wrenched out like limbs from sockets and possessed of a weird wet n' squelchy edge that adds to the unease rather than serving to dampen it. Icing on the cake is the bloke fronting the whole bastard din, his coarse, aggrieved screams seeming to just about hollow him out and lend things a sense of raw, unbridled desperation and might render him a shivering, empty husk by the end of it all but leave the rest of us smacking our livery lips and banging our cutlery on the table for more, goddammit, more! Comes in a special screen printed sleeve with insert. Limited edition of 100 copies.

BAXTER STOCKMAN "Romance" 7" 6€

Finally, after two small EPs and one compilation track, Baxter Stockman unleash their first vinyl release. The bruised ass on the cover promises a violent spanking and this Helsinki trio doesn't fail to deliver it! Connecting the dots from Jesus Lizard's frantic groove to Steve Albini's testicles would make a shape resembling Baxter Stockman, but how many years (even decades!) do you need to count back until you find a new band succeeding in making this sort of racket sound fresh? After drawing a blank with your calculations, just get a copy of this 7" and get the gut-punch you deserve. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 261 copies.

Hot on the heels of their brilliant second album "Ura", Hebosagil spits three new songs in your face, delivered on a shiny black 7" vinyl just like they're supposed to be. "Herätys" might be Hebosagil at their most abrasive, dissonant and chaotic yet at the same time there's a catchiness and such energy in the songs and performance that you'll need to cancel your online Viagra order now. BAD DRUGS "White Powder" LP 15€
(Rotted Tooth Recordings)
BACK IN STOCK! Bad Drugs is one of Chicago's absolute best noise rock bands, not just of now, of all time. And with the storied history of noisy rock bands formed by the oppressive nature of the Windy (not to mention cold, hot, overcrowded, and stank-ass) City, that's saying something. "White Powder" is an absolutely punishing, brutal, and gnarly noise rock record through and through. Other bands in the genre sometimes hide their lack of ability behind noise, which is fine and dandy 'cause we're all about non-musicians making a racket, but this is not the case with Bad Drugs. Each of these dudes is totally adept at their respective instruments. So adept that even the thick layer of noise that resides between phrases can't mask the skill residing in these dudes' skulls. By now you should know the Bad Drugs drummer well. He's been trapped behind the trap set for years now. Remember the awesomely monickered Lightning Bolt-ness of Slut Barf? Remember the post-Coughs art metal of Cacaw? Remember the heavy-handed cave punk of Heavy Times? Kyle Reynolds was the man keeping time and breaking sticks in all of those bands prior and/or during his Bad Drugs tenure. The burnsided bassist Andrew Martinec can also be found making noise with stringed instruments in the (literally) mentally challenged Arts of Life Band and raping skulls in the incredible Psychedelic Santa Traveller around the holidays. We're not exactly sure where guitarist Patrick LaBahn came from, but we imagine he spent the better part of his youth mastering the electric six-string in a dingy basement somewhere rather than developing standard social skills. You know one must learn the rules in order to break them successfully, and Patrick breaks 'em all with precision. He must know more rules than Coltrane knew and he's as good an axe-wielder as Dave Knudson. If Knudson had played with Unsane, and Unsane were from Providence, that'd be as close an approximation of the Bad Drugs vibe as we can think of. They have a better sense of humor (not present in their music, but) in their song titles than most bands too. There's the Windy City-centric "Ga'an Fishing" and "Go Ghost a-go-go". The RATM-spoofy "Chilling in the Name of" and the Verhoevenian "Robo Clop". And the album's called "Raw Powder". How brilliant is that? Fucking brilliant! Each and every single goddamn one of these songs R-I-P. Oh yeah, and the vinyl glows in the dark. Each side ends in an obnoxious locked groove. The art is fucking amazing, just like the rest of the Rotted Tooth releases. And it's limited to 300 hand-numbered copies.

CONDOMINIUM "Warm Home" MLP 13€
(Condominium Records)
"Warm Home" is the highly anticipated LP from St. Paul hardcore scuzz slingers Condominium. It follows a string of rather impressive 7-inches that saw the band emerge from more straight forward hardcore/punk to the realm of weird and abrasive that has since ushered in numerous comparisons to one of their home state staples, Amphetamine Reptile. While the singles certainly had a penchant for the noisier outsider vibes of hardcore, it was still difficult to fully connect the dots between the two. However, with the bands debut LP "Warm Home" it's certainly a much more logical and appropriate link than ever before instead of just merely being a convenient one. With "Warm Home" the band is allowed some freedom to really outdo themselves with the weirdo vibes here, setting aside a couple tracks of strange tortured strings and tuneless noise to greatly drive the point home with "Why Be Something That You're Not?" and album closer "An Arbitrary Choice Between Infinite Coexisting Realities". However it's the albums lead track "Life is Amazing" that is up there as one of the best tunes on the LP and is no doubt one of Condominium’s best moments thus far, combining a nearly perfect balance of hooks and bad attitude aggression. This is the second limited edition pressing of this LP, the first run of 752 copies sold out quickly. Black vinyl in black/white/orange sleeve with insert.

FLESHPRESS "No Return" MCD 6€
(Kult of Nihilow)
One of two recent EPs released by the Finnish sludgelords Fleshpress, "No Return" is a nightmare of a million eyes, an outburst of misanthropic black energy lashing out at the world surrounding them. Featuring two long tracks, the disc comes in at around twenty two minutes, but every second is weighed down with some of the heaviest, most torturous psychedelic doom you could ask for. The first song is called "Dead End Life Crawling Thru Shit and Blood Soul Burning" and isn't subtle about what sort of mood they're in; a slow, determined drum plod opens this joined by a lumbering bass line and soft delayed guitar forming into dark hovering chords, and it's quite minimal and somber at first. As ululating electronic cries and the sound of sparking circuitry drifts in from afar, it begins to blossom into ominous slow motion black doom, coming together into a saurian dirge as the guitar gets heavier, the bass rises to the fore, until the music suddenly lurches into a monstrous blown-out dirge, a crushing mid-tempo groove surrounded by those strange electronic noises and psychedelic fx. Deep chanting vocals show up towards the end, right before the song bursts without warning into fast paced crusty thrash, ending the song in an uproar of grinding Disrupt-esque thrash. The arcane "Spiral Filter Forcing You Down to Black Pyramid" starts with a watery, flanged guitar before dropping into the rhythmically crushing demon-boogie, a sort of swinging doomcrust of putrid snarling vokills, angular Southern sludge riffage and swampy, bloozy soloing that winds its way through the almost the entire song. Later on, it dissipates into pure cosmic whoosh, a long stretch of space noise and swirling black hole fx with just the fading pulse of the drums and bass keeping it from completely drifting into the abyss, then re-emerges as a pounding tribal metal outro at the end. Grisly, human-hating psych sludge.

FLESHPRESS "Rebuild-Crumble" MCD 6€
(Kult of Nihilow)
Something of a concept EP concerned with the act of natural creation and the law of entropy as it applies to the ephemeral state of humankind's achievements, "Rebuild/Crumble" is one of two great Eps that have come out recently from the mighty Fleshpress, those Finnish sludgelords who poison their grueling, grinding slow motion heaviness with a terminally hateful worldview and some interesting psychedelic elements. Clocking in at just under twenty minutes, this two song disc might be on the short side, but it's unrelenting in it's skull-crushing heaviness. "Rebuild" opens with looped backwards sound and airy room hiss, a strange environmental ambience that becomes filled with swells of feedback that converge into a moody post-rock instrumental. Twangy clean guitar ripples over shuffling slow-paced drums, and for a moment, Fleshpress seem to be channeling the brooding slowcore of Codeine. Then, out of nowhere they kick into a lurching crusty assault, snarling sludge that abruptly shifts gears and slows down into even more sluggish depths of heaviness before grinding back into the droning sludge. In response, "Crumble" layers slow pounding toms, mysterious scraping sounds and percussive clanking in an unsettling abstract intro; an ominous guitar melody creeps in, again forming into sinister slowcore, but slowly building into another blast of snarling apocalyptic sludge, and this time when the band peaks into the crushing riffs and thunder of tribal drumming, it has this Amebix / Neurosis-like vibe, all bleakly apocalyptic till they suddenly drop out at the end, with just a dark, ominous piano minor key melody hovering in the blackness. Packaged in a card sleeve with metallic silver printing.

VINYYLIT:

THROAT "Licked Inch Fur" MLP 12€
(Kaos Kontrol/Verdura Records/Made in Kansas/At War with False Noise)
"Licked Inch Fur" is the latest four-song EP from top-notch Finnish noise rock act Throat, and somehow it's even better than the "Adult Situations" 7" that I wrote about three months ago. I mentioned last time that the band seems to draw frequent comparisons to 16, Unsane, and Fudge Tunnel, but regardless of whether or not I agree with that, I will say that this EP puts Throat right up there with those highly regarded acts in terms of overall quality level. Surging rhythms, plodding basslines, eerie feedback, ringing dissonance, harsh vocals… it's all here in fine form. The songwriting has an unexpectedly dark heaviness to it as well, and that definitely pays off. And it's all wrapped up in an excellent recording that keeps everything sounding warm and natural – giving each element its own breathing room in the mix. Awesome, awesome stuff. There's absolutely no reason why fans of this particular style shouldn't be absolutely flipping out over this band!

FELLWOODS "Wulfram" CD 10€
(At War with False Noise)
Portland, Oregon's Fellwoods give us a slab of bluesey, hard-edged rock with a great vintage 70s sound. Undoubtedly these guys (formerly The Moss) will be lumped in with the current "retro-rock" revival, which includes some great bands, and some questionable bandwagon-jumpers. The major differentiator is the ability to just write a good tune - unconsciously and without pretence - and Fellwoods most definitely do that! It's very stripped-down, direct and raw blues rock which gives a heavy nod to the proto metal of the self-titled Bang LP, the first Sir Lord Baltimore record and even early Judas Priest. The vocals aren't a million miles away from Halford early caterwaul either and fit with the sense of kinetic urgency throughout. There are some fantastic psychedelic spacey passages going on too, reflected in the beautfiful cover art by vocalist/guitarist Adam Burke. Limited edition of 500 copies, comes in standard jewel case.

MARZURAAN "Five Years Worth of Fuck All" CD 10€
(At War with False Noise)
This collection comprises of demos, live stuff, rarities and rehearsals from the UK's most consistently interesting, forward-thinking, and just plain fucking great band of the last decade. Starting off from now and moving backwards through time to the early bedroom demo days, this CD shows Marzuraan's evolution from simplistic droning minimalism of the two bass lineup to the full-on rock beast of today. The album kicks off with a cover of Loop's "Afterglow", putting it through the post-Ginn blender and coming out with something great. The other cover here is a raging, lo-fi recording of Rollins Band's "Turned Inside Out", performed at the inaugural Glasgow Implodes fest a few years ago. There's a fierce, noise-ridden performance of "Nice Wang" recorded on Julian Cope's last tour, the epic dark drone rock of GMT recorded at the Lord Clyde in Byker, and the aptly-named Kraut-esque monotone riff of "Earth 3" from the confusing Manbyrd cassette. All in all, Marzuraan do it better than anyone else going right now; be it bleak minimal droning walls of sound, controlled experiments into feedback or baws-out "post" rock, without the scene points. They sound like the late, twisted Flag stuff on a mid-period Voivod album, with Swervedriver on in the background. Played by Helios Creed. Or maybe I just talked a load of bollocks, fuck knows! Buy this record, dickhead. Totally great packaging by the guys at Thumbprint Press; three-panel chipboard sleeve, double-sided print, with stark black letterpress and clear varnish.

REDRIGHTHAND "They Sang and Chanted for Hours, then the Locked in Hundreds Set Themselves Ablaze" CD 10€
(At War with False Noise)
Redrighthand played quite a bit in the UK and built up quite a name for themselves over the years, and this record is a perfect distillation of their sound: incredibly slow, interminably heavy and possessing an atmosphere of complete and utter despair that has rarely been matched since. This record is probably one of the best documents of the UK sludge/doom sound and should be held in the same regard as many others who have came and went since. The bands other Redrighthand members were in/went on to be in speaks for itself: vocalist Peet was in Hard to Swallow and Narcosis, Robbo went on to do They Are Cowards, Thomas and Paul were both in Charger and now play in Ocksen, and Paul Rauschen was in Like a Kind of Matador and went on to Gruel. Limited edition of 500 copies, standard jewel case with a "manifesto" insert hidden behind the CD tray.

Levytilausten toimitus onnistuu 14.4. Sir Oliveriin (Helsinki). Tee varaus ajoissa!
