UKK-020 War of Words: s/t 12"
First press: 100 as violet vinyl and 400 as black vinyl. Debut record
of this new Finnish anarcho punk rock band. 8 songs with intelligent Slug&Lettuce #81: "Melodic anthemic punk from Finland. WAR OF WORDS build a bridge on this LP. A bridge from classic UK anarchy-punk like POISON GIRLS and THE MOB to melodic post-punk to BURNING KITCHEN. Upbeat, but never cheery. Male vocals that are urgent, but never overbeating, and the female vocals are simply haunting. I'm at a loss of words, because this sounds totally original, while still managing to sound like so many things that I love. HUSKER DU's songwriting sensibilities with a voice on par with Exene? I think I've dropped enough names to last a whole issue, so I'll quit before a bigger hole. An incredible record. (-Robert)" |
