Siis pointti oli, ettei mulle ole tulossa noita myyntiin. Vinyyliversiot noista toki on tehty, vielä kun bändillekin asti päätyisivät.

DVD:

FLOOR "Sight & Seen" 2xDVD 16€
(Chunklet)
After years of toiling away in obscurity, followed by years of escalating interest during their hiatus, the legendary Florida band Floor reunited for a handful of shows in April 2010. Three different drummers. Three different sets. Over two hours of material spanning their early dirgey/noise singles to their landmark psych/drone/pop self-titled masterpiece. Filmed over two nights at the EARL in Atlanta, Georgia, "Sight & Seen" is truly something that needs to be seen to be believed. A multi-camera performance coupled with professionally recorded and mixed audio, "Sight & Seen" is an enveloping, droning wall of guitars. Floor's two guitarists, Anthony Vialon and Steve Brooks (of Torche fame), spend over two hours on stage with their various drummers. Their three drummers, Betty, Jeff and Henry, rotate through the band's lineup: crashing through their early singles, smoking the viewer with their mid-period haze and ending with the cathartic and anthemic final album.

Disc #1 of "Sight & Seen" also includes a 20 minute featurette that documents the band's history with never-before-seen live footage, photography and interviews.

Disc #2 is intended lure in both massive fans and completists alike. A data disc (which means you pop it in your computer), it includes:
- high quality audio files of both Atlanta shows (not just the one shown on disc #1)
- the complete and edited film of Floor that ended up on the cutting room floor (which clocks in at over 2 hours of video)

And in addition to this, the band has opened up their video vaults to include over an hour of archival footage spanning Floor's career from 1993 at Churchill's in Miami to their final shows in 2002.

"Sight & Seen" is housed in an elaborate package which was initially used on Chunklet's landmark "Anthem" 2xDVD release by Harvey Milk in 2006. "Sight & Seen" is a one-time release of 700 never to be reissued.

HEBOSAGIL / TWO BEATS OFF Split 7" 6€
(Psychedelica Records/Verdura Records/Posion Idea Records)
Seriously, this one is a monster. Super intense ass-kicking by both bands. Hebosagil has a gigantic sludge/metal/hardcore sound with loads of potential for headbanging and fist-shaking. And what about Two Beats Off then? Well, overwhelmingly energetic noisy hardcore punk that has a charming messy edge into it. Black vinyl. 500 copies.

www.myspace.com/tbo

HUMID "s/t" 7" 5€
(Suggestion Records/Dunkel Prod.)
Apparently the only release from the Norwegian psychedelic noise rock band Humid, this 7" dates back to 1996. Three tracks packed with jangly post-punkish reverb, dirty and gritty guitars of noise rock with a twist of psychedelic and spacey atmosphere. Full colour sleeve, blue vinyl, limited edition of 1000 copies.

MERCURY 4°F "Phased" LP 12€
(Suggestion Records)
Mercury 4°F were a Swiss noise rock/space punk band in the mid-90s who released a handful of 7" and 10" vinyls (on such classic labels as Bovine Records etc.) and "Phased" is their only full-length album as well as their final record, released in 1997. Definitely a varied mix of styles here, from noise rock to punkish space rock to stoner rock, such names as Big Black, F/i and Head of David have been thrown as comparisons, but that's only a part of the deal. Black vinyl. Limited edition of 600 copies.

SPLINTERED "Moraine" LP 12€
(Suggestion Records/No Risk No Fun Records)
The hugely prolific U.K. act Splintered finally submerge themselves in new wave ambience as the opening side of this one tracked LP kicks in. A moog floats around the background while small machines clatter away and a piano's keys are slowly struck in a fairly random manner. Eventually a guitar shows it's ugly face pummelling at the same hypnotic riff as the drums start to crack. The noises are still knocking about all over the place while you're trying to make out some deeply buried and delayed vocals. This same riff slowly builds in momentum until it eventually outruns itself and we're left with the same drone and clatter from where we came in. Side two stays with the guitars and drums, swirling the noise around with no remorse. Black vinyl, limited edition of 600 copies.

SPLINTERED "Smokescreen" 7" 5€
(Suggestion Records)
Another great release from this British experimental noise rock outfit, this 7" dating back to 1996. One side-long track and four shorter flipside tracks of the hypnotically percussive, lo-fi droning, experimental guitar feedback and riff grit that has always made Splintered so appealing. Full colour sleeve, blue vinyl, limited edition of 1000 copies.

THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT "Stains of Resignation" CD 10€
(Music Fear Satan)
Founded four years ago and after a bunch of ep's, splits and compilation records, here's finally the second full lenght by The Austrasian Goat, a one-man band project lead by Julien Louvet. After one year of work, this record is constructed from 9 pieces, ranging between furious black metal, atmospheric funeral doom and folk ballads. Surely his best and most mature work thus far. Among the guest appearances on this album is Jarboe (Swans) on "Voice of Aenima". The CD edition is limited to 1000 copies.

CLOACA "Lassitude" CD 10€
(Lone Vigil Recordings)
"Lassitude" is the very first release from the just launched UK label Lone Vigil, and is the debut of black industrial post metal doomlords Cloaca. Both the label and the band are fronted by Chris Naughton, he of doom/sludge masters Atavist and neo pagan black metallers Winterfylleth, but Cloaca is a whole different beast than either of those two outfits, and while most descriptions peg Cloaca as ‘experimental industrial doom’, that might be a bit misleading. It might have you picturing a churning avant Godflesh or some sort of machinelike downtuned Swans, when in fact, the sound of Cloaca is much more organic, and much closer to the slow build post metal of groups like Pelican, Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Snowblood, and Isis, the guitars lush and warm, the songs sprawling epics, with spiralling melodies, and dense tribal drumming, brooding and majestic, like a blackened Godspeed, building to explosive howled churning ultra metal blow outs, that transform into roiling chugging grooves, heavy and motorik and mesmerizing. The songs spend much of their time drifting dreamily, spidery guitar melodies draped over loping post rock rhythms, and when they do get heavy, it’s not always explosive crescendos, the band can lock into a riff and ride it out like some sort of black doom post metal Hawkwind, extended psychedelic cosmic metal jams that destroy, heaving hypnotically, thick sonic swells that churn and roil and eventually do explode into some serious heaviness, but it’s not just big chords there either, the band get super dense and complex, start stop rhythms, mathy arrangements, thick and convoluted and so so heavy. Throughout the record, Cloaca deftly flit from moody drift to soaring majesty, to metallic crush, wrapping impossibly hooky melodies and strange disembodied sampled voices around thick slabs of metallic hypnorock, a sound that’s definitely hard to make your own, but these guys have definitely staked their claim on this chunk of epic brooding heaviness. Definitely essential listening for fans of Rosetta, Baroness, The Body, Grails, The Ocean, Angel Eyes, Tides, Souvenir’s Young America, Mouth of the Architect, Irepress, Indian, Conifer and other post metal alchemists…

SKEPTICISM "Stormcrowfleet" CD 10€
(Red Stream)
Finnish veterans of funeral doom! Skepticism's debut album "Stormcrowfleet" is huge, like an impressive vast monument. All songs move incredibly slow and create a very dark and depressive feeling that is beyond anything you've ever imagined. Tragic and epic doom for souls that weep for the darkest doom and funeral marches! This is the epitome of tragedy!
www.myspace.com/officialskepticism

SKEPTICISM "Ethere" MCD 8€
(Red Stream)
On "Ethere", Skepticism display three lengthy tracks of primitive funeral doom. "Ethere" could be viewed as a beneficial factor when entering total depression. Listening to Skepticism is like being surrounded by fog and darkness. This obscure release, first released in 1997, has yet again been re-issued by Red Stream.
www.myspace.com/officialskepticism

SKEPTICISM "Aes" MCD 8€
(Red Stream)
"Aes" reached uncharted melodies and the music is bludgeoningly heavy and brutal for the amount of heart crushing feelings it brings with each listening. Skepticism is a respected being by an open minded group of elite funeral doom people that will very much be attracted to the appeal of this unique release. Innovative use of clear paper packaging and obscure layout make this pleasurable to your eyes as well as ears and mind.

SKEPTICISM "The Process of Farmakon" MCD 8€
(Red Stream)
Unhurried in its heart tearing outcome, this taster release bludgeons you like the burden of a thousand tragic deaths. Critical funeral doom in a jewel case.

SKEPTICISM "Farmakon" CD 10€
(Red Stream)
Skepticism re-introduces funeral doom through plodding drums, detuned guitars, and medieval keyboards, resulting in a compositional masterpiece. "Farmakon" is neo-classical melancholy forged with chthonic sludge...

HEY COLOSSUS / FIELD BOSS Split 7" 6€
(At War with False Noise/Black Horizons/Crucificados Pelo Sistema)
Great split from two of the UK's most exciting heavy bands, perfectly complimenting one another! Hey Colossus don't do things straight, and what we have here is a slo-mo cover of Andre Williams' "Jailbait", battered into submission by HC's trademark downbeat dirge. The blues on downers. Field Boss are bloody brilliant. The band previously known as Tractor have been knocking around for a few years but this is their first "proper" release. It reminds me a lot of early Unsane; they've got that Am Rep sound down to an absolute tee, really thick guitars, monotonous, hollowed-out drum sound and in-the-red vocals pushed down in the mix. One might hear the first Fudge Tunnel record (surely one of the most overlooked albums ever?!) in there as well. "I got a headache on my birthday". Fits it perfectly, brilliant! 300 copies on heavy black vinyl. Three-panel screen-printed cover, metallic ink.

RAMESSES "Take the Curse" 2LP 20€
(At War with False Noise)
At last! The second full-length from the masters of psychedelic horror doom is released on the one true audio format! This is the most focused and direct Ramesses record yet: more tight and less sprawling than previous efforts, this is all about the riffs. Each song is a total bad acid trip of lysergic doom, but the arrangements are completely tight and more immediate than before. There's a total 70s Hammer/Euro cine vibe going on throughout, lots of great samples...makes you want to be on the set of The Dunwich Horror or something! Definitely the most fully-realised document of Ramesses' vision thus far. Limited to 400 copies. Double album on 180g black vinyl. Comes in a gatefold sleeve with metallic ink and spot UV varnish, die cut on the front and the back to allow the printed heavy inner sleeves to shine through, as well as a 10"x10" insert.

CLONE VOL. III Compilation LP 12€
(Blind Date Records)
Clone Vol. III is a compilation series curated by Blind Date Records in Germany and features doom and sludge bands covering some classic tracks. The Clone series pays tribute to the roots of doom and sludge. Hardcore, punk, metal and rock classics played in a slow and heavy manner. Fistula (US) starts with quite a slow and monotonous interpretation of Nirvana's "Something in the Way", which sounds like listening to Nirvana after 2 bong loads and fevered delirium. Kiss' "War Machine" covered by Bad Luck Rides on Wheels (Germany) is a heavy-rocking–two-fingers-in-the-air doom song that makes your brain dizzy after almost 9 minutes non-stop moshing. With Neanderthal's "Crawl", Whitehorse (Australia) picked a power violence classic and discreetly added the characteristic electronic noise background Man is the Bastard and Neanderthal was/is so famous for. SU19B (Japan) did a song of the Swedish black metal pioneers Bathory and painted that song with their very own brutal and slow sludge. On the flipside we have Crowskin (Germany) with a Turbonegro/Black Sabbath combination. Alexandra slips in the position of Hank and Motherfuckin’ Ozzy and....their doom-version with slighly adjusted lyrics simply kills. Sollubi (US) chose one of the most depressive Dead Kennedys songs "Forward to Death". To gain the most evil effect they reduced the speed by exactly 66.6%. The result: nihilistic sludge core at its best that takes Mr. Biafra’s old breath away. Next up we have Habsyll (France) with a song from Tekken that covers all genres between drone, sludge and grind within 77 seconds. Last but not least L7's "Talk Box", covered by Solar Horn (Finland); side-project of two members from Throat. Their "Talk Box" starts with a 4 minute atmospheric drone sound before “it scrares the shit out of you”. Limited to 400 copies on 185g black vinyl. Embossed die-cut sleeve, full colored 12" inlay and 12-page 9" sized booklet.

FIGHT AMP "Hungry for Nothing" LP 15€
(Brutal Panda Records/Big Sleep)
Best described as a more punk-influenced Unsane or Jesus Lizard, Fight Amp offers up healthy portions of distorted bass lines, abrasive guitars and pummeling drumming, making "Hungry for Nothing" an excellent example of a noise-rock meets punk meets hardcore crossover record. In fact, Fight Amp's interesting mix of influences and superb execution make it a no-brainer to label "Hungry for Nothing" as one of the greatest records of 2008. Thanks to Fight Amp's more focused songwriting and hardcore/punk lean, "Hungry for Nothing" is confidently propelled along, making the disc successful in providing a robust slab of noise rock for years to come. Black vinyl. Limited edition of 500 copies.
www.myspace.com/fightamp

FIGHT AMP "Manners and Praise" LP 15€
(Brutal Panda Records/Red Sun Industries)
Fight Amp, are back once again, re-emerging from dank Jersey basements with a great follow up to their stellar debut, "Hungry for Nothing". Now a three piece after the departure of guitarist Rebecca Burchette, the band’s sophomore effort, while missing Burchette’s vocal presence, sees the guys hitting their stride in form with more of a focus on the noise rock aspect of their sound. With shorter songs and more focused energy, Fight Amp still deliver gritty guitar tones, thick and heavy bass and thundering drums with as much fervor as they did on their debut. There is a bit more groove thrown into the mix as well, that will have you nodding your shaggy head along with the sludgy tones and rhythms. "Manners and Praise" was recorded in the summer of 2009 at The Jam Room with Philip Cope (Kylesa, Baroness). White vinyl. Limited edition of 500 copies.

FIGHT AMP / LADDER DEVILS / KOWLOON WALLED CITY "Lose / Lose / Lose" Split LP 15€
(Brutal Panda Records)
"Lose / Lose / Lose" unites three noise rock powerhouses onto one split release of aggressive rock'n'roll. Kowloon Walled City, Fight Amp and Ladder Devils each contribute two brand new tracks into one cohesive format. The record is packaged with a special silk screened poly bag and a 12”x16” fold-under insert. Clear vinyl. Limited edition of 300 copies.

ABISMO "Ventos De Éter" CD 10€
(Obskure Sombre Records/Sabbathid Records)
Extreme nihilistic drone doom from Brazil. Pure rejection of human life. Two massive tracks of slow ambient doom along with a bonus track to finish the madness. Limited edition of 300 copies in regular jewel case.

DOOM ALL OVER THE WORLD Compilation 2CD 12€
(Game Two Records)
After years of delays and re-workings, in typical Game Two fashion, "Doom All Over the World" has been finally released and features a diverse selection of inspired bands with both inventive and traditional takes on the doom aesthetic. The compilation features exclusive material from Burn Heavy, Cold Mourning, Deer Creek and Smaug (USA), Möse (Belgium), Mr. Peter Hayden (Finland) and Pylon (Switzerland). This one is a heavy listen indeed! "Doom All Over the World" is packaged tastefully and economically in eco-pak style gatefold cardboard sleeve with exclusive cover artwork by Paul Vismara.

GHÄST / RAPE-X Split CD 10€
(Obskure Sombre Records)
Filthy droning doom versus harsh hateful electronics. Ghäst is super sparse, slow motion blackened doom, still plenty lo-fi, the drums murky and down in the mix, the guitars more of a distant moan, sometimes soaring to the forefront, before drifting off again, the vocals super distorted and effected and harsh. All around this plodding blackness, creepy drones soar and shimmer, wail and keen, offering up a mournful abstract backdrop for Ghäst's miserablist blackdoom. Rape-X play scuzzy, filthy power electronics; all crack dens, backstreet abortions and low-life criminal acts.

THE DEVIL AND THE SEA "MMVI" 10" 10€
(The Path Less Travelled Records)
Originally released as a demo and here in 10" vinyl format, The Devil and the Sea's "MMVI" is a gargantuan slab of southern sludge, atmospheric post-rock, and cycloramic doom. The most obvious touchstone is Neurosis, but the band manages to flesh out its sound with wildly distorted yet simplistic 'Floydian psych and the unnerving swamp swagger of Louisiana brethren Eyehategod. The songs on "MMVI" are as equally audacious as they are ominous, melding a wide range of emotion with an immense sonic tapestry. Yellow vinyl. Includes digital download coupon. GRUEL "s/t" 2LP 15€
(Feast of Tentacles)
This is the only recording Gruel made, or will ever make since they announced their recent split, and what a testament it is! Like The Melvins playing King Crimson's "Red" album, this is at both theatrical, beautifully composed, and troglodyte-ianly heavy. Utterly immersive, each passage of quiet atmospherics is shattered by a barrage of brilliant repetitious riffing. Four 15 minute-long songs and it's totally captivating from start to finish. Will definitely be right up the alleys of those into Melvins, Swans, Grief, Throbbing Gristle, Goblin, Harvey Milk etc. Black vinyl in full colour fold-out sleeve.

KOWLOON WALLED CITY "Turk Street" 10" 10€
(Feast of Tentacles/Howling Mine)
Get a load of this five song ep, of fierce, furious, crushing heaviness. Think Unsane, old Helmet, The Melvins, Buzzov-en, Neurosis of course, this is some seriously heavy shit. The guitars massive and downtuned, a relentless sea of roiling chug and churn, the drums dense and pounding, the vocals a throat shredding howl. The AmRep vibe is all over these songs, the sound incredibly thick and corrosive, the rhythms alternatingly pounding and lurching, most often settling into a lumbering almost-groove, the melodies buried amidst the crunch and rumble, sometimes surfacing as the band slips into something more dynamic, letting the guitars moan and keen, the drums getting all spacious, sheets of Eyehategod style feedback, a weirdly doomy sort of abstract sludge, before slipping back into a furious grinding metallic crush. The vinyl is limited to 300 copies, and is pressed on cool swirled red and black vinyl.

KOWLOON WALLED CITY "Gambling on the Richter Scale" LP 12€
(Feast of Tentacles/The Perpetual Motion Machine)
On "Gambling on the Richter Scale", their first full-length, San Francisco's Kowloon Walled City add a touch of finesse to the grinding pummel introduced on last year’s "Turk Street" EP, which drew comparisons to Neurosis, The Melvins and other low-end explorers, from the ‘90s AmRep roster to the current crop of sludgecore contenders. These eight new crushing tracks unleash a barrage of noisy, down-tuned hardcore and sludge. Silver vinyl in black/white sleeve.

MOLOCH / CORPUS DEI Split 7" 6€

POLLUTION "Nasty DNA" LP 12€
(Feast of Tentacles)
Pollution are a raw hardcore outfit featuring members of Unearthly Trance. Their debut album entitled "Nasty DNA" was previously only available on CDr format, but Feast Of Tentacles stepped up and released this ugly sucker on vinyl as well. Pollution are a harsh, raw, dissonant hardcore outfit with some AmRep influences reminding of classics such as Born Against and Rorscach. If you like your hardcore clean and buff, this won't do the trick for you. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve.

THOU / MOHORAM ATTA "Degradation of Human Life" Split LP 12€

NOLA's most hardworking band Thou put out their fifth release of 2009 with "Degradation of Human Life". Here we see Thou's swampy gloom (including a Minor Threat cover song) coupled with Mohoram Atta who does an excellent brand of His Hero is Gone/Cursed hardcore with a touch of black metal. As with all Thou releases expect only the utmost quality here. Beautiful matte jacket with more of the excellent imagery you'd expect from them along with a matching innersleeve. Black vinyl.

BLACK BONED ANGEL "Verdun" LP 12€
(Riot Season)
The eagerly awaited and much delayed new studio album from Black Boned Angel. Described by Rock-A-Rolla magazine as the bands "most sombre and realised work to date", and who are we to argue? Sharing a similarly bleak ground to Corrupted, Sunn O))) and Earth, New Zealand's Black Boned Angel return with their fourth full length album "Verdun", and perhaps their most sombre and fully-realised work to date. The Battle of Verdun was fought between the German and French armies, and was one of the critical battles during World War 1 on the Western Front. It resulted in more than a quarter of a million battlefield deaths and at least half a million wounded. Verdun was the longest battle and one of the most devastating in World War 1 and indeed in history. Over the course of 50 minutes, Black Boned Angel soundtrack that brutal conflict with their trademark dark ambient drones and doom-laden riffs. Limited edition of 500 copies.

HEY COLOSSUS vs DETHSCALATOR Split LP 12€
(Black Labs)
Black Labs unites two of Britain's creamiest, shadiest, hell mongers Hey Colossus and Dethscalator for a split album and you're going to cop it massively in the face till you fall in. Three new long tracks from Hey Colossus and five from new boys on the chopping block Dethscalator. Clocking in at around 40 minutes and wrapped in a gorgeous sleeve. Hey Colossus and Dethscalator are two truly unhinged faces of the same rotting, mid air spinning bad apple, storming down their steaming rays of utter pitilessness, the bastards. Locking you in its highbeam and telling you everything you don't think you want to know, but secretly do, axes raised high, trapped voices dragging you down into the dim well. Both know the path to unbridled feedbacking euphoria and putrid atmospheric depth and are allowing the lucky few to climb inside the gungey joey pocket of fate and soar and crash over and over. Flaying victims regularly home and abroad you will do well to serve yourself a hot steaming portion immediately. Limited edition of 500 copies.

HEY COLOSSUS & THE VAN HALEN TIME CAPSULE "Eurogrumble Vol.1" LP 12€
(Riot Season)
Fifth album and a new six man line up. 12" black vinyl only, the way it should be. Almost seven years of flying under the radar doesn't seem to have bothered these stubborn souls. Back they roll with their second album on Riot Season. "Happy Birthday" plundered a top 30 spot in the Rock-a-Rolla end of year charts, in fact it caused quite a stench wherever it was heard. "Channelling the no frills riffage of Black Flag and Melvins before drowning it under a sea of distorted feedback" said the heavy metal magazine Kerrang. "'Intense' is an overused description, but Hey Colossus deserve it. Utterly." wittered the doomed indie mag Plan B. Now with the addition of The Van Halen Time Capsule they've set their sites on the lights. The majick and jam of Germany in the 70's, and all things dingy, claustrophobic and killer from Whitehouse to The Heads. Recorded in their South London home, Dropout, the sludge and stink of previous efforts still prevails. Ooze ridden basement tapes created under a fug of the most suspicious odour, add in some swamp doom and it begins to fall into place. This fella is a melting pot of libellous ideas and ludicrous intentions. "The Question" bubbles away for 3-4 minutes, 4 guitars weaving, 3 banjos jizzing, 2 voices crumbling and a band trying to work it all out. Eventually his master's voice comes in. Like a failed preacher he passes over the information. It all falls into place. The album, this time piece, continues in the same vein over both sides. When it crushes it does so with no protest. When it rocks, it does it with Kraut stylings. When it's metal it is with no doubt. The more you listen the more you hear. Incantations from the other side keep drifting at you. It's more than it is. The last song, "Wait Your Turn", spends a while ploughing a one killer riff furrow, before falling off the cliff into a clangathon that will peel the sclera from your eyes. Be alone. Turn the lights out. Blaze one up. Crank it. Wrapped in a sleeve depicting Masonic images taken during the recordings, liner notes from Loess Cos Yuh, the Spanish leading light on all things dark, this 12" is what it's all about. Limited edition of 500 copies.

SHIT AND SHINE "229 2299: Girls Against Shit" 2LP 16€
(Riot Season)
Shit and Shine return with their fourth Riot Season album - following "You're Lucky to Have Friends Like Us", "Jealous of Shit and Shine" and last year's acclaimed "Cherry" - after a link-up with the Load Records stable for their last release. Continuing in their usual Riot Season style, what we have on offer here is the bizarre, the puzzling and the downright groovy. The epic, drawn-out single-riff jams that make up their legendary live shows are replaced by their trademark off-the-wall lunacy, making for a fun-packed adventure akin to biking trips with friends, and the local mental as a child. "229 2299: Girls Against Shit" could be the soundtrack to that summer, the beating of rats with sticks, the shooting of girls with gat guns, swimming in a mang ridden cut and the discovering of dead dogs and maggots. Ah, those were the days my friend... The douible vinyl version is limited to just 500 copies and packaged in a colour gatefold sleeve.

SLOATH "s/t" LP 12€
(Riot Season)
Sloath are a sickly, unwholesome, long and short-haired five piece from the south coast of England, brought together by a mutual desire to play the slowest, loudest and heaviest music possible using guitars, bass, drums and chant-like vocalisations. Although formed in the summer of 2007, two years later, the original line-up of Luke and Leon (guitars), Kai (vocals), Dave (drums) and Tom (bass) finally recorded this album of loud, slow and heavy music at Brighton Electric Studios, which is to become their debut release on the Riot Season label. Expect more soon. The band has spent the last year touring up and down the UK and Europe, sharing stages with the likes of Acid Mothers Temple, Burial Hex, Om and White Mice, either delighting or tormenting unwary audiences with their obnoxious yet soothing psychedelic performances that has rightly earned them a fearsome reputation as a live entity. Sloath are quite clearly enjoying themselves… For fans of Sleep, Harvey Milk, doom and sludge. Heavy riffage and deep vibrations. Limited edition of 500 copies.

TODD "Big Ripper" LP 12€
(Riot Season)
TODD are back! Two years after the release of "Comes to Your House" and countless shows of hysteric noise and chaos worldwide they now deem the world to be ready for the next chapter… and their finest moment yet! A slight line-up change, enough songs written for a triple album (and then disgarded as not being good enough!), a new studio and a new label have all led to the band now becoming a tighter deal altogether. After a kiss and a hug from Southern, TODD felt the time had come to go it alone. They retreated to their island studio and began to strip everything back yet always keeping in mind what playing music meant to them. Slowly the songs began to come. Bursts of noise played over and over again until they began to take shape. Recorded 'in the red' in two days, mixed in a week then realised fully back at the mysterious TODD ranch, "Big Ripper" was ready. It needed a home and only one home came to mind. Through a gentleman's agreement the deal with Riot Season was done. The rest will be history... Their balance of riffs, noise and magic is now even more astonishing while keeping the same intensity and beauty as they've always had. "Big Ripper" is an absolute killer on all levels. From the machine gun fire of "Arista Disco" to the wall shaking "Happy Easter Florida" via the super heavy "The Rub" and the drugged despair of "French and in France", TODD have mastered their art, blown it apart and started again. "Big Ripper" is the one. The one they have always threatened to do. It is the sound of TODD inside your house. You don't get bands like this anymore and this third full length set is sure to leave many a jaw nailed to the floor. It's menacing, beautiful and above all the most intense thing you are likely to hear for a long, long time. Limited edition of 500 copies.

WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH "Peaced" LP 12€
(Black Labs)
"Peaced" is the new five song 12" from Austin, Texas' When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth. At the time of their last album "Not Noiice" there were upwards of around seven people in the band, however they’ve since brought it down to five. Doubtfully having any more members would have changed much about this record anyway, as it’s basically a high volume treble heavy blast of noise from start to finish. On record, over the last couple at least, they really don’t sound much like they do here on "Peaced". In fact, this seems to be heading more so in the direction of Expensive Shit, a side project that contains three members from When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth in which they are pretty much free to indulge in as much noise improv as they please. "Peaced" probably blurs the lines here a bit more however, still employing traditional riffs underneath a very heavy coating of fuzz, reverb, and maniacal shouting. All five tracks seem to take the same three components and shape them into a noticeably different style however, which for five dudes that had probably completely lost track of time and their whereabouts is fairly impressive in a way. If you’re looking for more Texas noise/scuzz, then "Peaced" is definitely a good place to look. Limited edition of 100 copies.

ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE COSMIC INFERNO "Pink Lady Lemonade ~ You're from Outer Space" CD 10€
(Riot Season)
The first AMT & TCI studio recordings since the addition of Pikachu, drummer and vocalist with Osaka grenade-girl duo Afrirampo. The popular AMT standard "Pink Lady Lemonade" showcases a 21st century acid rock update on the 60s San Francisco psychedelic sound. On "Pink Lady Lemonade ~ You're From Space", The Cosmic Inferno crew give "Pink Lady Lemonade" a new lease of life and reinvent it as a trippy/chilled out monster. As it rolls on, they sing - adding new riffs and taking it to the stars and back. It's like hearing it for the first time all over again. This really could be AMT's first 'summer album'. Unlike previous The Cosmic Inferno albums - this one doesn't reach in the red status often - it's more out there, like they've gone back to their mountain retreat and taken too much mushroom tea perhaps. But when it does finally soar, Kawabata's guitar has never sounded so alive.

ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. "Minstrel in the Galaxy" CD 10€
(Riot Season)
"Minstrel in the Galaxy" is the sound of the newly slimmed down four-piece AMT recorded in their smoke filled basement studio in Nagoya during summer 2004. The sounds captured on these three tracks are the first post-Cotton Casino AMT workouts. The diminutive beer and cigarettes goddess has upped sticks and moved to the USA to start a new life and plan her solo career. The AMT line up for this album features the core trio of Makoto Kawabata (guitar), Atsushi Tsuyama (monster bass), Hiroshi Higashi (guitar & effects) and new permanent drummer (and ex-Mainliner man) Hajime Koie (drums). The free jazz style drumming from Hajime has helped give AMT their sense of improvisation back, most of their work is improvised and recorded live to tape which gives that great loose feel they have that takes them off on tangents and makes each new record that little bit different from the last. They’re joined on this album by Japanese underground queens Afrirampo, who’ve just finished a tour with Sonic Youth and look set for big things themselves in the near future. Musically this album is a slight departure for AMT, anyone buying it expecting a head-melting riff heavy record are going to be disappointed. "Minstrel in the Galaxy" sounds darker and more stripped down than any previous AMT release. The title track alone lasts a staggering 41 minutes, over the course of which the band take our heads in a few gentle directions before letting rip towards it’s crushing finale.

ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. "Myth of the Love Electrique" CD 10€
(Riot Season)
"Myth of the Love Electrique" is the second Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. album released by Riot Season, following the relatively laidback "Minstrel in the Galaxy" in 2004. Musically sitting somewhere between their 1997 self titled debut album and the classic 'out-there' double album "Absolutely Freak Out (Zap Your Mind!!!)", "Myth of the Love Electrique" explores the many shades of the AMT sound, managing to be both wild and beautiful at the same time. From the 'in the red' guitar driven album opener "The Man from Giacobinid Meteor Comet", to some quieter acoustic passages during "Five Dimensional Nightmare", to the total meltdown felt halfway through the 20 minute "Love Electrique". "Myth of the Love Electrique" fully explores the whole AMT sound for the first time in years. Live favourite "Pink Lady Lemonade (May I Drink You Once Again?)", a staple of any AMT live show, is included here on an AMT album for the first time in its normal length, complete with added space whispers from new AMT girl Kitagawa Hao, who fills the now departed Cotton Casino's tiny shoes elegantly.

ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. "Acid Motherly Love" CD 10€
(Riot Season)
Now firmly fixed to a solid four-piece (Tsuyama Atsushi, Higashi Hiroshi, Shimura Koji and Kawabata Makoto) with added guest vocalists, Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. return to their spiritual home of UK's Riot Season for yet another 'out there' ride through their weird and psychedelic world. Guitars howl, riffs grow bigger with each minute and brains get fried along the way. Recorded under falling ash and burning roof tiles, "Acid Motherly Love" features every dimension of their legendary underground sound - from wild riff heavy jams, to quieter acoustic passages and spoken monologues, all capped by the trance inducing 15 minute-plus epic "Santa Sanrodriguez". Artwork features the obligatory naked Japanese babes in all their finery.

HEY COLOSSUS "Happy Birthday" CD 10€
(Riot Season)
From headlong infusions of psychedelic rock to the limitless furrows of doom, in "Happy Birthday" London's Hey Colossus has constructed an all conquering citadel of experimental/metal disrepair. The album is a rampaging fire-cloud of superstoked riffs and ever mounting walls of feedback, a rough house collection of battering new songs driven at sweltering pace by a band with a fearless momentum. This is the record that the band has always threatened to unleash - a pitch black album for our ever scorched earth. For fans of Unsane, Neu!, Circle, Corrupted, Eyehategod, Fudge Tunnel, sludge, doom etc.

SHIT AND SHINE "Cherry" CD/DVD 10€
(Riot Season)
They’re an afternoon spent tearing up betting-slips at the bookies. A stain on your shirt that won’t wash out. Shit and Shine refuse to be categorised, commodified or caught with their trousers down. They’re a blurred snapshot of bi-polar Britain, camera-phone footage of a nation that’s slowly swallowing itself whole, one mouthful at a time. They’re a requiem for back-street cafes and grubby little places that now only exist in our memory or in back-issues of Savage Messiah magazine. They’re a brittle, defiantly distorted soundtrack to our own cultural demise: time at the bar, gentlemen, please! Shit and Shine don’t make records, they make accusations, threats and intimidating phone-calls. Albums sell out in a day or maybe they were never even released. Press-releases come with grainy, badly photocopied pictures of band-members, their faces resembling some freakish Fotofit identity parade, while YouTube is awash with dodgy-looking live clips shot in cellar-bars or at some Argentine Noise fest. Their new album "Cherry" has been deliberately released to coincide with the clocks going back. It’s a sullen, grimy and spiteful album, full of piss and vinegar and drums. Imagine an after-pub punch-up in A&E with the Burundi Drummers, or the Butthole Surfers if they had gone to primary school in Harlesden. It’s petty, vicious stuff like its magnificently delinquent predecessor, "Jealous of Shit and Shine". "Cherry" is a treasure-trove of dark, malignant delights that finds the band augmenting its trademark neo-brutalist sound with a whole bunch of unexpected textures. A full-on essential purchase for anyone who’s ever loved raw outsider music, free noise, hardcore punk, barbarian rock or underground experimental shit of any size, shape or hue. Trust me, it’s a total gotta-have for doom metallers, sludge addicts, japrock fetishists, extreme drone geeks or anyone who ever chased a rabbit down a hole. Bonus DVD features Shit and Shine live at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes, London, November 29th 2007.

ULTRAPHALLUS "Sowberry Hagan" CD 10€
(Riot Season)
The band, formed in Liége in 2004, and after a succession of album releases and high profile European tour slots they are back with their third album and a new sound. "Sowberry Hagan" was recorded in just four days in a farm near Liége. The album combines their well-honed sound of cacophonous guitar riffs juxtaposed with hypnotic, ambient doom whilst also experimenting with new sounds. By introducing new instruments to the fold including banjo, alto and soprano saxophones, and other instrumental samples, Ultraphallus have reinvented themselves and are crafting their very own new definition of doom. They have certainly pulled out all the stops for "Sowberry Hagan" as they have also recruited the help of special guest Eugene Robinson (Oxbow) who carries his trademark, talented voice for an epic eight minute ambient-rock track. The result is an album more dark and more encompassing as ever before. If you have yet to be consumed by Ultraphallus' atmospheric sounds then this is a good place to start. Mastered by James Plotkin.

HORSEBACK "The Invisible Mountain" LP 12€
(Aurora Borealis)
Horseback, the brainchild of Jenks Miller, has released two full-length albums since forming in 2007. The band's second full-length, "The Invisible Mountain" spans four tracks of gorgeously warm analogue drone rock that brings to mind the Kraut drift of Amon Duul II and the modern Western cinemascope of Earth while pushing headlong into territories unknown. "The Invisible Mountain", is released as a highly limited vinyl LP on Aurora Borealis and will be re-released on CD through Relapse Records later. Second edition of just 300 copies on white wax with a fold over velum-style sleeve featuring artwork by Russian occult artist Denis Kostromitin, this is a beautiful edition of this incredible record.

L'ACEPHALE "Malefeasance" 2LP 16€
(Aurora Borealis)
In the wake of their polarising first Aurora Borealis release, "Mord und Totschlag", L'Acephale return with "Malefeasance", a lengthy and complex affair that further explores their fascinations and strikes headlong into the darkest of musical vistas. The journey this time is perhaps even more academic: further ethnographic audio elements are now present, more spacious passages, a deeper approach. The album begins with "Vainamoinen Nacht", a distinctly ambient and largely gentle piece, as warping tones begin to collide with the intoning of the Eddas and Slavic choirs. "Hitori Bon Odori" continues themes found on "Mord und Totschlag", repetitive acoustic riffing, joining with vocal chants and some executioner's snare rolls. "A Burned Village" is a more black metal track, slow martial drums and staccato riffing, with layers of vocal and even some aetherial keyboard. Perhaps these last two tracks best show the nature of Set Sothis' collaborations with Markus Wolff (Waldteufel, Crash Worship), sharing some of his vocal and percussive styles. "From a Miserable Abode" takes us into more familiar L'Acephale territory as droning distorted guitar is swallowed gradually and ineffably under panning layers of shrieked vocals, swathes of electronic noise and maelstrom before passing over into Tibetan ritual music like some horrific and excoriating funerary rite. The album continues with "Sleep Has His House", a near 15 minute track of feedback scree cut through with repetitive heavy handed strumming and culminating in a curiously intoned vocal piece that recalls prime Swans. Album closer "Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" is a knowing 23 minutes with some of the quietest moments on the album, as dreamlike interludes pass into arcs of harsh noise followed by acoustic guitars before once again entering the dream state, a field recording from beyond consciousness. By no means do L'Acephale make music for the casual listener, nor will this album appeal to all, in many ways they transcend the listener's preconceived ideas of what may be expected: L'Acephale are perhaps most successful at operating beyond the constraints of genre altogether, and "Malefeasance", with its dark, dreamlike and harrowing atmospheres, is their testament. 180g black vinyl double LP with a giant fold out double sided poster (90cm x 60cm), 20 page full colour booklet as with the CD, and all housed in matte LP sleeve with 5mm spine and poly outer bag. This is a weighty and exquisite release, limited to only 500 copies.

CONAN "Horseback Battle Hammer" CD 10€
(Aurora Borealis)
Conan are a caveman battle doom trio from the grim north of England. They summon the heavy riff from the ungodly land and crush the skull of the unbeliever with their low end doom assault. Waves of sludge and galloping crust passages overwhelm the unwary. "Horseback Battle Hammer" is comprised of four long and crushing tracks recorded at Wales' mighty Foel Studio (Hawkwind, Electric Wizard, Godflesh etc.) The sound is monolithic, and clearly the band made the very best use of this legendary studio to get remarkable results from their custom made gear for a truly crushing debut release. Combining excellent production values, deadly riffs and a unique vocal style, "Horseback Battle Hammer" stays with the listener like a fresh wound. With artwork by Tony Roberts (Electric Wizard, Unearthly Trance, Cathedral, etc.), Conan have set in stone the majesty of their arrival. The excellent debut CD comes in a digipack sleeve with metallic ink.

HORSE LATITUDES "Gathering" CD 10€
(Aurora Borealis)
Horse Latitudes are an excellent new band from Finland playing unique occult metal. Comprising of two basses and a singing drummer, it's clear this band is out of the ordinary, and the debut album is full of unexpected material. Somehow combining elements of epic sludge, Nordic leftfield underground metal bands like Urfaust and Ride for Revenge, and with hints of the Bradford Doom sound of yesteryear, particularly in the vocal delivery, this is a potent sonic brew. Heavy, throbbing bass, emotive and yet strangely detached vocals and tribal pounding drums distill into a powerful metal beast tearing the cosmos asunder. The album is presented as a jewel case CD with six panel booklet. All artwork was created by the band.

JOURNEY TO IXTLAN "s/t" CD 10€
(Aurora Borealis)
Pan pipes carry on the air as the eagle circles the mesa, your mouth full of sand and peyote mulch as the sun beats down. Riding out of the desert like the ghosts of future past in a dune buggy powered by dreams come Journey to Ixtlan. Totally heavy, very psychedelic, and utterly sun kissed this is the sound of new age doom & occult desert rock. Journey to Ixtlan are an anonymous badass rock band of desert dwellers, in some cases living outside the law at the very margins of society, who converge infrequently to render their physical surroundings in psychotropic sound. Their heavy sound owes as much to doom metal as it does to psychedelia, as much to now as it does to then, as guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocal chants intertwine like shamanic smoke. To listen to Journey to Ixtlan is to participate in a ritual out of time, to tread the path of Don Juan, to lay on the mesa as a 'man of power' and be touched by the sun at the heart of the cosmic stage. Truly a very special album, presented as beautiful matte finish mini gatefold, with printed inner spine.

MENACE RUINE "Union of Irreconcilables" CD 10€
(Aurora Borealis)
The Montreal duo Menace Ruine release their eagerly awaited fourth opus on Aurora Borealis. Entitled "Union of Irreconcilables", the album builds on their previous great work, the alchemical collision of black metal, walls of noise, mysticism, martial rhythms, and a medieval affinity for melody leaving the listener with a sense of unforgettable originality. Begun in 2006, Menace Ruine have always followed their own path, combining unusual elements and vocal styles in an effort to capture their unique musical vision. The evolution of the band's style and sound has been a constant throughout their three previous releases including 2008's "The Die is Cast" (Alien8) with Genevieve's powerful vocal performance coming to the fore. The CD comes in a noble digipack compact disc with poster booklet, all artwork designed by the band.

MOSS "Cthonic Rites" CD 10€
(Aurora Borealis)
Second pressing of the debut full length album by Moss. Two tracks, 66:06 minutes of brooding ultra doom on a cosmic scale. Huge slabs of distortion warp the listener like gamma rays, leaving a twisted parody of a human in their wake, as one touched by the unholy tentacles of the Elder Gods who dwell beyond time and all comprehension. Revised and expanded artwork, now featuring a written piece by Seldon Hunt.

NEIGE MORTE "s/t" CD 10€
(Aurora Borealis)
Neige Morte are an obscure entity from Lyon, France, creating an icy and oppressive hypothermic musical blast. Ponderous and bizarre passages of atmospheric sound crack and give way plunging the listener into frozen riffs as they are carried off by the post-black metal current tearing through the heart of Neige Morte. The cruel and nihilistic aesthetic chimes with much of the output of the French underground scene as does the experimental edge found in the five tracks served on this debut platter. Difficult to categorize neatly, Neige Morte are merely interested in engulfing the listener in the slow embrace of frozen death. The album is presented as a digipack CD.

RYE WOLVES "Oceans of Delicate Rain" CD 10€
(Aurora Borealis)
Rye Wolves' debut album "Oceans of Delicate Rain" features canyons of psyched out doom into stratospheric bottom heavy spacerock, Rye Wolves traverse a globe swathed in oceans of discordant metal and mountains of math rock. Rye Wolves, hailing from Oregon, USA, are one of those rare bands who manage to both challenge and entertain the listener by turns, from the ferocious opener "Frank Miller" to the subtle menace of "Blood Moon" and on to the epic 11 minute plus "No Matter" that closes the album, "Oceans of Delicate Rain" shreds speakers and buries nations under its epic, monumental sound.

VILLAINS "Drenched in the Poisons" CD 10€
(Aurora Borealis)
Epic filth and metallic depravity from New York City featuring members of Unearthly Trance, Cattlepress, Hemlock etc. Their debut full length, "Drenched in the Poisons" conjures up the danger and proud unholy spirit of early metal and acid punk. A vomitous fornication unto the whiskey whores and foul souls passing out in the dark. These eight aural lashes come at the listener criminally intoxicated and definitely not nice. Dirty metallic onslaught highly recommended for fans of early Bathory, early Venom, Abigail, Barbatos... You get the idea. Hammer of the posers. Fucking great album.

YRSEL "Requiem for the Three Kharites" CD 10€
(Aurora Borealis)
Yrsel create complex, multi layered and highly atmospheric music that fully explodes the genres of drone, doom, and electronica resulting in a glorious glacial melt of sound and texture. Yrsel is a collaboration between The Austrasian Goat, primarily an experimental doom/black metal project, and Ondo, an equally prolific dark electronica project. Conceptually, the album deals with the Three Graces (Kharites) of Greek mythology, symbols of grace, beauty, pleasure, and the creative impulse. A requiem for the loss of culture in an ever spiraling material world, a twilight ode to the mythic manifestation of our higher faculties. In this context the drones, glitches and whispers form the perfect soundtrack to such dark materials. The album dissolves slowly from its thunderous opening, finally leaving the listener in a deep void of palpable loss. Deluxe silkscreened CD package in an edition of just 500 copies.

ALTAR OF PLAGUES "Tides" MLP 13€
(Burning World Records)
Two song EP from the Irish black metal horde Altar of Plagues. "Tides" is comprised of two tracks; "Atlantic Light"(15:45) and "The Weight of All" (19:45) with inspiration drawn almost entirely from the power and energy of the Atlantic Ocean, making the release possibly the band's darkest material thus far. The EP was mixed by Mell Dettmer of – among others - SunnO))) and Wolves in the Throne Room fame. Black vinyl.

THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT "Piano and Stump" 2LP 18€

One of the most promising bands, The Austrasian Goat from France combines minimalistic raw black metal with sludge, drone and funeral doom. Evil, awesome and beautiful sounds collide with frightening tunes. There is no band around like this. "Piano and Stump" contains songs originally released on CD-Rs and compilation, but side A contains brand new songs specially made for this release. Limited edition of 500 copies.

FARFLUNG "The Belief Module" 2LP 18€
(Burning World Records)
If you've never heard of Farflung then you have been missing out on some of the most pleasurable space rock around. "The Belief Module" was played and recorded using vintage instruments and equipment, which reveals the bands dedication and attitude towards their music. This album excels at combining layers of simple guitar and synth lines to create a wall of blistering kraut rock influenced space rock. The distinct infiltration of 60s acid rock (both mainstream and more cutting edge) is evident through the entire album, but is perhaps most evident in "Fingers of the Sky Catcher", parts of which almost beckon you to recall the earliest Syd Barrett led Pink Floyd glittering gems. "Gleam" adds a more 60s pop style to the mix, yet that manages not to be detrimental to the song. The systematic and purposeful fusion of classical acid rock and modern synth space rock makes this album appealing at many levels, and to a wide audience. Despite the fact that both Hawkwind and acid rock inspiration are quite evident through out, this album forges a cosmic path all it's own. Black vinyl.

GNAW THEIR TONGUES "All the Dread Magnificence of Perversity" 2LP 18€
(Burning World Records)
Picking up where 2008's "An Epiphanic Vomiting of Blood" left off, Gnaw Their Tongues is back with nine new tracks of fearsome blackened orchestral chaos and abstract horror that still sounds like little else out there. On "Dread", there's an even heavier bass-assault compared to the other releases, and this is easily the heaviest Gnaw Their Tongues release yet. This monstrous, noxious bottom-end roar that skulks and slithers throughout the album suggests a foul fusion of Abruptum (which is still the closest reference point to Gnaw Their Tongue's black chaos) and Leonard Rosenman's most nightmarish film scores, piled in towering heaps of sadistic noise, warped orchestral strings, degraded samples, shrieking voices, and punishing lurching doom draped in suffocating atrmosphere. Hyper-abstract black metal sound-collage? Wagnerian avant-doom psychosis? That's one way of putting it, but Gnaw Their Tongues is ultimately impossible to pin down, defying simple categorization as this album plunges even deeper into a black pit of total cinematic horror, sexual perversion, and shapeless heaviosity. The gorgeous double LP set comes in a thick gatefold jacket with the exact same artwork and album design as the cd gatefold, only bigger of course. And the last side has three tracks ("Thee, I Invoke, Akephalou", "I Hear Only the Clanking of the Scythe ", "A Promise of Revenge Whispered from Stitched Lips") that don't appear on the CD release (or anywhere else!). Black vinyl.

GNAW THEIR TONGUES "L'arrivée de la Terne Mort Triomphante" LP 13€
(Burning World Records)
One of the extreme metal/industrial underground's most unique bands, Gnaw Their Tongues arises again with a new album of majestic, orchestral death-terror called "L'arrivée de la Terne Mort Triomphante", a series of five hymns to the death shroud, a celebration of dissolution. This Dutch one-man avant black/doom/industrial band is responsible for two of the most chilling albums of abstract heaviness to have been released in recent years ("An Epiphanic Vomiting of Blood" and "All the Dread Magnificence of Perversity", but with this new full-length, Gnaw Their Tongues peels back additional layers of it's bombastic horror to reveal moments of euphonic beauty more than heard on the previous albums. Of course, this is essential for fans of previous Gnaw Their Tongues albums, but it's equally recommended to fans of both abstract blackened weirdness of bands like Emit, Abruptum and Blue Sabbath Black Cheer, and the bleak Wagnerian industrial of In Slaughter Natives and Shinjuku Thief. Black vinyl.

GOATSNAKE "I + Dog Days" 2LP 20€
(Burning World Records)
Rising from the ashes of stoner/doom legends The Obsessed during the small genre's most fertile post-Kyuss period, Goatsnake helped define Southern California's low-and-slow metal scene during the late '90s. With releases on Hydrahead Records, Frank Kozik's famed Man's Ruin, and Southern Lord Records (co-owned by guitarist Greg Anderson) Goatsnake could be considered a quintessential stoner/doom band of their time. The group is only separated by two degrees with the inimitable Saint Vitus; Kyuss bassist Scott Reeder has performed with the band; and Southern Lord (while perhaps contributing to the end of Goatsnake by demanding the attention of bandleader Anderson) came into its own just about the time that stoner rock's California flagship label, Man's Ruin, went belly up, thereby maintaining an obscure West Coast rock tradition. Facts like these suggest that while Goatsnake might not have been the best Sabbath hounds to materialize after the circus (led by Kyuss) essentially left town, they were among the heartiest, and the most legitimate heirs to the California stoner throne. They were true believers.

GOATSNAKE "Flower of Disease" LP 17€
(Burning World Records)
After the release of Goatsnake's debut album "I" and its follow-up EP "Dog Days", the very next release from Los Angeles' heavy, doom-rock band was 2000's "Flower of Disease". Originally "Flower of Disease" was released by the now defunct Man's Ruin Records, while Southern Lord released the vinyl version. Both these releases have been out of print for over 8 years. In order to preserve and properly document this important recording this reissue has been created. This is essential listening for fiends of heavy music with a sinister swing. The heaviness of doom, the swing of soul and the dark cry of the blues. Purple vinyl.

HARVESTMAN "In a Dark Tongue" 2LP 18€
(Burning World Records)
Harvestman is the brainchild of Neurosis vocalist/guitarist Steve Von Till, who considers "In a Dark Tongue" a venture into an imagined past. The album is inspired by Hawkwind, Fairport Convention, Tangerine Dream, Pentangle, Steeleye Span, Skullflower, Caspar Brötzman, and Loop, among others. It is a massive meeting point of styles and influences, all of which boil down to a surreal and inspired sound. Black vinyl.

SCOTT KELLY "The Wake" LP 15€
(Burning World Records)
Scott Kelly (Neurosis/Shrinebuilder) is a master at creating atmosphere with simple means. The chord progression in "The Searchers" is tense despite its slow tempo, making the song one of the most impressive on "The Wake" in terms of the mood it establishes. "The Wake" isn't all dark though; "Catholic Blood" is a beautiful and touching track, with chords expertly rolling over each other to complement Kelly's raspy vocals, which channel Tom Waits at his most delicate moments in songs like "Time". "In My World" is a more upbeat song, with Kelly's major key rumbling propelling the song into the realms of troubadour-like folk. "Remember Me" is one of two tracks that make use of a distorted slide guitar that slithers its way around the rocky precipices of the track, camouflaging itself within Kelly's voice to make the song the album's most desolate. The fact that Kelly can create such expansive soundscapes with so little is a testament to just how long he's been at this. Black vinyl.

MOS GENERATOR "Songs for Future Gods" LP 12€
(Burning World Records/Señor Hernandez)
Born from the ashes of a scene that promised the second coming of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath but delivered only watered-down bar bands and radio-friendly alt rock, scene veterans Shawn Johnson (ex-Mindfunk), Scooter Haslip (ex-Voodoo Gearshift), and Tony Reed (ex- Treepeople, Goodbye Harry) felt the instinctual need to strip down to the basics of hard rock. Their debut, "Songs for Future Gods", virtually oozes sludge through your speakers when first played. The rhythms are tight, and Reed's guitar playing has grown all the more explosive. The fact is, Mos Generator plays kick-ass, honest, old school heavy rock'n'roll. Dynamic, resilient, instinctive, and unpredictable - never boring - Mos Generator is a must-see the next time the band comes to your town. Black vinyl.

NEUROSIS "Live at Roadburn 2007" 2LP 18€

If you really want to experience the power of Neurosis, this is the way to do it. Two black vinyls in gatefold sleeve. Limited to 1000 copies.

POLLUTION "Smut" LP 15€
(C6 Recordings)
Brooklyn’s Pollution probably doesn't need much of an introduction really after a slew of pretty smoking releases over the past year or so. Now they have a new self-released LP to tout about titled "Smut" that delivers in the same vein of some of their recorded live material, in that it’s straight up break neck paced dirty hardcore. There just isn’t a way you can listen to this record and not get incredibly pumped up listening to it. "Smut" will no doubt put a smile on the face of those who have been following the band. The riffs are plentiful and the raw production emits a sort of energy that really captures a “live” vibe, and so far that’s the setting in which this band really shines. To have a record like "Smut" that can harness much of that is quite the accomplishment and most certainly makes for a great record.

SUMA "s/t" 2LP 18€
(Speakerphone Recordings/Sumaamus Recordings)
The easiest and best way is to say this Swedish group is an even mix of Kyuss and the Melvins, and even that doesn't really do them justice. This nine-song album is one continuous psychedelic, low-end rumble of riffs upon riffs upon riffs. There's a familiar desert rock vibe to these Swedes, but with considerably more crunch than the Dozers and Truckfighters of the world. On the longer tracks they have a knack for cutting loose with some hazy jams that drift up and out to another plane of heavy. The shorter tracks are more defined and direct, with a crazy-thick wall of distortion almost drowning out the vocals. In either case, the band knows how to lock into a groove. Black vinyls in gatefold sleeve. Limited edition of 1000 copies.

SUMA "Let the Churches Burn" 2LP 18€
(Speakerphone Recordings)
The behemoth has a name: It is Suma. In its cockpit four guys from Sweden, whose mission is to fuse Sunn O)))'s apocalyptic apotheosis of string instruments with inhumanly heavy drumming. The doom-Weltmacht invoked hereby can only be described halfway decently by gibberish about space monsters and the end of mankind. Besides the paradigmatic references to O`Malley's holy order, Suma give you lots of classic heavy doom-groove and Eyehategod-style crust-feeling; in the calmer parts even Earth-like clarity can be found. All that comes in an enthrallingly mad style the Electric Wizard himself could not do better. So clothe yourself in rags, go on a pilgrimage into the desert and form sects to pay homage to the interstellar manta. For Suma's day is near! Engine-eared by Billy Anderson. Gatefold sleeve. Limited edition of 500 copies.

"Ashes" has been engineered by Mr. Billy Anderson himself, while the artist in charge of the whole artwork concept is no other than Stephen Kasner. Limited edition of 500 copies.

YEAR OF NO LIGHT "Live at Roadburn 2008" LP+DVD 18€
(Burning World Records/Roadburn Records)
Yet one more band started after too many Belgian beers under the sun of the ending summer of 2001, Year of No Light slightly but undoubtly started to slide down to gloomier atmospheres as the inherent chaos of Bordeaux’s caves and harshness of winter made their common work. As the line-up solidified around the 5 actual members escaped from acts such as Metronome Charisma, Deja Mort and Nexus Sun, the band clarified their intentions and started to build the basis of what would be their first demo recorded in 2004. More and more shows were played with bands such as Isis, Cult of Luna, High on Fire or Unsane. The rather general critical acclaim of the demo quoting them as being “The Cure playing sludge” combined with live reviews becoming more and more encouraging compelled the band into the writing of new tracks that finally ended up being recorded at Playrec studio under the direction of Serge Morratel in the fall of 2005. The debut "Nord" was released in 2006. "Live at Roadburn" was recorded at the famous Roadburn Festival in 2008. For the last song the band was joined on stage by Fear Falls Burning for 20 minutes of doom/drone mayhem. Black vinyl. Limited edition of 500 copies. Each copy contains a DVD of the concert, made of amateur footage shot at the gig.

"Tides" is comprised of two tracks; "Atlantic Light"(15:45) and "The Weight of All" (19:45) with inspiration drawn almost entirely from the power and energy of the Atlantic Ocean, making the release possibly the band's darkest material thus far. MOTHER SUSURRUS "s/t" CDr 7€
(Mother Susurrus)
Strong debut from this Finnish newcomer featuring members of Von Auer and Dark Buddha Rising. Definitely something that could be placed within the post-metal genre yet steering away from excessive shoe-gazing and drowsiness. Long, well balanced compositions with great attention to detail and dynamics; storming riffs and violent vocals flow into more psychedelic passages and onwards to soothing, delicate moments. Mother Susurrus list at least YOB, King Crimson, Ulver, Tool, Melvins and Mastodon as some of their influences in case that gives you an idea of the diversity of their sound. Limited edition pro-CDr in full colour digipak.

BIG'N "Dying Breed - A Collection of Singles & Unreleased Songs" CD 10€
(Africantape)
It’s the year 2011 and there is a label putting out a compilation disc of rarities and unreleased tracks from Chicago noise-rock greats Big'n. All of the songs from the early singles can be found here and even better is that they have been remastered from the original master tapes. From the standpoint of someone that owns a couple or so rough playing copies of the aforementioned singles, this is great news and they sound great. Also to be found are some unreleased demos/outtakes from various recording sessions spread across the early 90’s. Finally "Mealticket" has a place on a physical form after years of having to play a Youtube video to simply hear the song. And if you are a fan of the band's ridiculous and at the same time amazing cover of AC/DC’s "TNT", then you’ll be glad to know that the inclusion of their cover of yet another AC/DC tune "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" can be had on "Dying Breed" as well. Big'n no doubt helped define a part of Chicago’s music scene, but on a much larger scale they should be recognized as a band that also helped define an entire genre. With "Dying Breed" here, the band is getting their due all these years later.
