Walesissä paikallinen Labour näyttää pitävän valtansa Toryjen kiristä huolimatta. Ukip sentään romahtaa siellä. Tosin sielläkin on vielä nämä monen edustajan vaalipiirit julkaisematta.

UKIP tosiaan menetti lopulta kaikki paikkansa Walesin parlamentissa ja muutenkin äärioikeisto romahti ympäri kuningaskuntia. Tosin samalla BoJon toryt ovat monin osin muuttuneet äärioikeistolaiseksi puolueeksi, että vähän semmoinen 50/60 miten paljon tätä kannattaa juhlia.

Tästähän on ollut juttua kuinka labourin hallitsemat paikallistason valtuustot ja sen sellaiset ovat monen kansalaisen mielessä syyllisiä tory-hallitusten kidutuspolitiikkaan, mutta tämä kulma on uusi. Ruokapankit eivät sinällään taida olla sidoksissa työväenpuolueeseen tai etenkään konservatiiveihin.

Noin muutoin labour ei lopulta kärsinytkään niin yksiselitteistä turpasaunaa kuin miltä perjantaina näytti. BBC:n asian tuntija dosentti laski taikakaavalla, että puolue itse asiassa teki nyt valtakunnallisesti paremman tuloksen suhteessa toryihin kuin 2019 parlamenttivaaleissa. Vertailu eri vaalien välillä on mitä on, mutta labour teki etelässä uusia valtauksia siinä missä se koki menetyksiä pohjoisessa.

The BBC has been collecting data in 1,000 key wards.

This gives us something known as the projected national share.

It gives us an estimate of the share of the vote the parties may have won in a nationwide general election - if voters had behaved in the same way as those who actually voted in the local elections.

So on the basis of those 1,000 key wards, the BBC projects that if a general election was taking place, the parties would have the following percentage shares:

- Conservative 36
- Labour 29
- Lib Dem 17
- Other 18

The projected Conservative lead of 7 points is similar to the average Conservative lead of 6 points in the most recent Britain-wide polls.

The election results thus appear to confirm the apparent vaccine boost to the Conservatives' popularity.

But in contrast to the result in Hartlepool, there is a projected nationwide net swing from the Conservatives to Labour of 2.5 points from the 2019 general election. Hartlepool's by-election saw a 16% swing the other way.

Labour have made at least some progress in this election, albeit far less than what one might expect from an opposition in the middle of a government's term.

The Liberal Democrat projected share is two points lower than the party's performance in the last local elections in 2019 and only slightly better than that registered in 2016 and 2018.

The party still seems to be doing little more than treading water, even if it is still stronger in local elections than it is for Westminster.

A county court judgment has been registered against Boris Johnson's name for an unpaid debt of £535.

The court order, which names Mr Johnson, of 10 Downing Street, was made on 26 October, according to a database of judgments.

The creditor and nature of the debt, which was first reported by Private Eye magazine, is not yet known.

The PM's official spokesman said he had "seen that report and we are looking into this issue".

Asked if Number 10 had only become aware of the judgment when it was first reported earlier on Wednesday, the spokesman said it was something they are "looking into currently".

And on being asked whether there should be concerns about the prime minister's personal finances, Mr Johnson's press secretary said: "You should not be concerned, no."

Äänioikeuksista apropoo, Johnsonin hallitus aikoo säätää äänestyslain, jonka mukaan jatkossa äänestämiseen vaaditaan kuvallinen henkilötodistus. Throughout his time as UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has tried to distance himself from the insinuation that he is the British equivalent of Donald Trump, a comparison that the former US President himself was keen to make.

But one of Johnson's most recent policy proposals has undeniable echoes of what became the cornerstone of Trump's claim that he was the legitimate victor of the 2020 presidential election.

On Tuesday, Queen Elizabeth set out the Johnson government's legislative agenda for the coming year in what is known as the Queen's Speech. The document is written by the government and read out by the UK head of state in the Houses of Parliament.

In the address, the Queen said that under the new Electoral Integrity Bill: "Legislation will be introduced to ensure the integrity of elections."

The government claims the new election rules would protect postal and proxy voting, and clamp down on voter intimidation.

Controversially, however, the new legislation would require voters to show identification to cast their ballots at a polling station.
