The colour will be navy blue and the design embossed in gold.”

The statement goes on to say: “Since its introduction in 1921, there have been a few variants of that navy blue colour but it has never been black, as some commentators have suggested.”

However, all that effort has been undermined by the online application process for obtaining a British passport. The form asks applicants if they have previously held a British passport. Then they are asked to specify whether it was “a dark red passport” or “a black or blue passport”.

Brexitin kovin kannattaja on valmis mittamaan uudelleen, kuinka moni britti kannattaa EU-eroa.
Brittipoliitikko Nigel Farage sanoo, että hän on lämmennyt ajatukselle uudesta Brexit-kansanäänestyksestä.

– Ehkä, mutta vain ehkä, olen alkanut ajatella, että meidän tulisi järjestää toinen kansanäänestys EU-jäsenyydestä, Farage sanoi brittiläisen Channel Five -kanavan haastattelussa.

EU-parlamentaarikko Farage on Britannian itsenäisyyspuolue UKIP:n entinen puheenjohtaja. Hän on pitkään vaatinut Britannian eroa EU:sta ja oli Leave-kampanjan näkyvimpiä hahmoja ennen ensimmäistä kansanäänestystä.

Hän sanoo olevansa varma siitä, että uudessa kansanäänestyksessä Brexit-puoli voittaisi selvemmin numeroin kuin edellisessä. Sen ansiosta asiaan ei tarvitsisi palata ainakaan sukupolveen.

– Äänestysprosentti olisi ensi kerralla paljon korkeampi kuin viimeksi.

Edellisessä äänestyksessä kesäkuussa 2016 Faragen kanta voitti. 51,9 prosenttia briteistä äänesti Brexitin eli EU-eron puolesta ja 48,1 prosenttia sitä vastaan. Äänestysprosentti oli 72,2.

Osa Britannian parlamentaarikoista kannattaa uutta äänestystä, joka järjestettäisiin sen jälkeen, kun Britannian eron ehdot ovat selvillä.

Nigel Farage has proposed a second referendum on leaving the EU to settle the issue for a generation, as he believes the result would be the same again.

“So maybe, just maybe, I’m reaching the point of thinking that we should have a second referendum on EU membership … unless you want to have a multiple choice referendum, which would confuse people. I think that if we had a second referendum on EU membership we would kill it off for a generation.
